Nature Counts LAB
Dr. Joanne Littlefair
I’m interested in hearing about new opportunities for research and collaboration. If you are looking to join the lab as an MSci, MRes, PhD student or postdoctoral fellow, please do get in touch to discuss possible routes.
We are currently advertising the following masters student project:
- Airborne eDNA for National Biodiversity Monitoring: Does Filter Choice Matter?
This project will compare airborne eDNA collected from paired filters targeting two different particle sizes from air quality monitoring networks in the UK (DEFRA, 2026). Understanding any differences in biodiversity detections will help inform which filters are used for future large-scale airborne eDNA monitoring. The project will be jointly supervised by Clare Cowgill (c.cowgill@ucl.ac.uk) and Joanne Littlefair. Please get in touch for further details.
Previously advertised PhD positions:
- Decoding Airborne eDNA through AI to Uncover Biodiversity and Environmental Health Patterns
- Integrating environmental DNA into national biodiversity datasets to explain drivers of biodiversity loss
- Biodiversity and ecosystem service delivery in novel urban green space fragments
- Non-invasive assessment of heat stress in UK lakes: the effects of global change on Arctic charr populations
Please contact me to discuss these projects in more detail.
I am also eligible to supervise PhD students through the London NERC DTP and the LIDo DTP. Click here to view an exemplar project. I’m also open to discussing ideas with students and creating novel projects. For students interested in combining fisheries and eDNA research, FSBI is a funding possibility.
Other sources of PhD funding are related to country of origin, e.g.
- High-income Commonwealth countries
- Least Developed Commonwealth countries
- CSC scholarships (China)
Potential sources of Masters funding:
- Chevening Scholarship (Global)
